Fill the Land with Cinemas

Declarations for Cinema from the Scala Beyond network

DECLARATION #13: Whirlygig Cinema

Film, especially in its short form, should be celebrated. As well as telling stories and making us think in different ways, it gives us the excuse to come together affordably and share an experience. And with an abundance of incredible new filmmakers in this digital age, this experience is more available than ever, giving us ever more chances to meet like-minded and interesting people.

So we, as Whirlygig Cinema, believe it is our job to thank those filmmakers; to give something back and make them feel truly appreciated. We do this by recognising the potential in their work and sharing it with a receptive and supportive public audience. We always encourage the filmmakers to come along and experience their work in this way; to soak up the buzz and be the centre of attention for a night.

Our events always contain a special ingredient to make the experience more memorable for everyone. We might present films with Q&As and specially tailored introductions, or in unusual settings. We put filmmakers in the spotlight and give them time to showcase their work to supportive audiences. We even have a regular night called Making Tracks where we show films alongside brand new live scores.

For Scala Beyond we will present ‘Voyage of Animation’ – an audiovisual night showcasing work by artists and animators. As well as screening a diverse scope of work by new filmmakers, we will draw attention to the historical influences that have shaped animation as we know it today. We will create a multi-dimensional live experience with accompanying scores from The Cabinet of Living Cinema and other live performances and we feel sure you will come away feeling informed, uplifted, inspired and engaged!

As part of Scala Beyond, Whirlygig Cinema will be screening:

Sunday 16 September | 7.30pm | £9  Whirlygig Cinema & The Cabinet of Living Cinema present A Voyage Through Animation, The Yard Theatre, Queen’s Yard, Hackney Wick, London, E9 5EN
