Fill the Land with Cinemas

Declarations for Cinema from the Scala Beyond network

DECLARATION #29: Magic Lantern Film Club

We are Sheffield’s only nomadic pop-up community cinema experience.

We love cinema and the shared experience of watching a film on a big screen. Our aim is to show all kinds of great films in spaces around the city that are usually used for something else. We’ve put on Shaun of the Dead in a pub backroom, silent films in an old chapel, a feel-good cycling film in a bike shop’s courtyard, and a documentary about an independent record shop in an empty shop.

Screenings from the Magic Lantern Film Club are for everyone. They are usually free and always a little rough around the edges. We only started in 2011, but now have over 200 members, a regular themed programme and big ambitions.
